RoWi-X X-Ray of big workpieces
Windmill blade analysis by X-RaySource: own
SHR RoWi-X is a project in collaboration with the BMBF, 2D X-Ray for large work piecesThe fault location analysis is currently being carried out manually by simple tests. This is a very time-consuming and subjective test method, the quality is heavily dependent on the experience and skills of the surveyors. The joint project RoWi-X is developing a system that automates the testing of rotor blades and greatly improves the workflow. Using X-Ray technology is made very precise detection, visualization and documentation in the rotor blade of existing defects. With the new system, the time required for testing the rotor blades is reduced significantly and at the same time greatly increases the quality of the audit. Positioning can be done with conventional machining operations such as developed by the project partner EEW modal.
Principle and procedure of the examination with RoWi-X and EEW-Modal
The principle of the test provides a first step X-Ray of the entire rotor blade to create a 2D X-Ray image of the blade. Were found defects during the first step, a 3D image of the defect is created by a second, more detailed examination, which allows an accurate assessment of the damage. It may be decided before the labor-intensive finishing phase, whether a repair is made or the blade is sorted out. No error-containing blade goes into further processing. The development of RoWi-X represents a significant advantage in the automation of the rotor blade manufacturing process. The RoWi-X System will improve the production of the rotor blades by simplifying and accelerating the defect analysis by automation.
Up to what size workpieces can be investigated?
With the X-Ray system RoWi we can X-Ray up to 80,000 x 4,000 x 3,000 [mm] workpieces or objects.
